Antioxidants are additives that inhibit or retard the degradation of polymers by the action of oxygen or ozone in the atmosphere. Polyolefins are an important area for the consumption of antioxidants. According to a newly completed report by the US Townsend Polymer Consulting Company (TPSl), the global demand for antioxidants for plastics will continue to grow rapidly. Although raw material costs are rising and prices are high, world antioxidants are expected in 2004-2009. The average growth rate can reach 5%. In 2004, the world's antioxidant consumption has exceeded 318,000 tons, with a market value of 750 million US dollars. By region, Asia Pacific (excluding China) has become the world's largest consumer area accounted for 30%, Europe and North America each accounted for 25%, China and other regions accounted for 20%. It is predicted that China's plastics processing industry will develop rapidly in the next few years. China's antioxidant demand will double in the next five years. By 2009, China's antioxidants will account for 10% of the world's total, and in 2004 it will only account for 6%.

Nucleation / transparency. The clearing agent is a branch of the nucleating agent and about 90% of the clearing agent is used in the production of transparent polypropylene (CPP). The transparent agent imparts good transparency to the originally opaque PP, so that the low cost CPP can replace the relatively expensive transparent plastics such as PET, PS and PC in many aspects, and can improve the rigidity and impact strength of PP. Mechanical properties such as heat distortion temperature. At present, the global nucleating agent consumption is about 5,000 tons / year, of which 80% is DBS (diphenylmethylene sorbitol) nucleating agent.

Antistatic agent. Antistatic agents are also a type of additive that has developed rapidly in recent years and are widely used in the processing of plastics. Driven by industries such as electronics and medical care, antistatic agents are developing particularly rapidly, and are expected to grow at twice the rate of migration-type antistatic agents. In 2003 and 2004, the antistatic agent market in North America grew by about 4%, mostly in electronic home appliances and food packaging materials. From the point of view of antistatic agents, ethylamines are mostly used on polyolefins and packaged as electronic devices. Quaternary amine compounds are often used in PVC, such as industrial conveyor belts, magnetic sheet packaging and bottles, etc.; fatty acid esters are mostly used for polymerization. The olefin is internally antistatic. In the next few years, the demand for antistatic agents in China will increase at an average annual rate of 10%-15%. It is expected that the demand for antistatic agents in China will reach 4,500-5,000 tons in 2006. At present, the domestic production capacity is insufficient, especially the high-performance new varieties of antistatic agents have small production capacity and few varieties, and can not fully meet the needs of domestic synthetic materials.

Antibacterial agents. Antibacterial agents are increasingly used in plastics with an annual growth rate of 3.5%-4.0%. The antibacterial product made of antibacterial material can make the antibacterial component on the surface of the material kill the pathogen or inhibit the microbial growth on the surface of the material, thereby achieving the purpose of hygiene and safety. North America is the region that uses more antibacterial agents (including biological inhibitors), accounting for 40% of the total global use: followed by Japan with 20%. Japan's per capita antimicrobials are used in large quantities, far exceeding North America and Europe. Due to the rigorous and costly registration procedures for new antimicrobial agents, many manufacturers focus on developing new applications for existing varieties.

Deoxidizer and UV blocker. Deoxidizers and UV blockers for packaging, especially food packaging, are new types of additives in recent years. These two types of additives can remove oxygen remaining in the package, block UV rays, extend food storage time, and are mainly used for food and medicine. , health products and cosmetics. Such products are expected to grow at double-digit rates in the next few years. The infrared ray blocker is a functional additive for the shed film. It is mainly used to keep the temperature in the greenhouse constant, prevent the heat loss caused by the infrared radiation in the greenhouse at night, and partially suppress the infrared rays directly on the greenhouse at noon. In addition to inorganic compounds as infrared barriers, in recent years, Japan and Western Europe have tended to study organic thermal insulation agents because of their compatibility with resins, strong ability to absorb and block infrared rays, and at the same time do not affect the transparency of the film. Therefore, organic infrared blockers will be an important research direction in the future.
